Paperwork Needed To Transport Remains From Abroad

When a family, friend or loved one dies abroad, transporting their remains can involve a complicated and overwhelming procedure.

At Omega Funeral Home, we understand that death is a traumatic event. We will support you and make every step of the documentation process easy for you.

There are many details to take care of; depending on the country of origin and destination of the remains. You may not be able to handle all of it by yourself.

First and foremost, know that the local national embassy can help you overcome language barriers and obtain some of these important documents.

At Omega Funeral Home, we can also help you verify the documentation requirements of the country where the death occurred. Do not hesitate to contact us if you need any other help.

Without these documents you may not be given clearance to repatriate. Imagine how burdensome that would be.

These documents include:

  • Embalming certificate
  • Data page of passport: this refers to the page carrying the biodata, date of issue and expiry.
  • Health waiver From the Ministry of Health: application for waiver is addressed to the Honourable Minister of Health.

Other documents are required before this waiver can be obtained.

  • Free from infection form
  • Out of England form (if repatriating from the UK)
  • Consent from Nigerian Embassy (if repatriating from the USA)

All the official documents accompanying the body should be submitted on arrival.

We are able to assist with the following:

  • Custom Clearance & Collection at Lagos, Port Harcourt & Abuja Airport
  • Act as consignee on behalf of families and funeral organisations
  • Procurement of Health Waiver from the Ministry of Health
  • Conveyance of deceased from Airport to family’s chosen destination
  • Complimentary 30 day refrigeration storage ( Lagos collection only)
  • Airport meet & greet service.
  • Chauffeured service for family’s duration of stay in Nigeria

Repatriation can be an expensive, complex and emotionally challenging process. However, there are ways to help ease this burden.

Traveling to the country where the death occurred may not be necessary. All you have to do is choose a funeral director in both the country of origin and destination.

Omega Funeral Home is capable of acting on your behalf to appoint a foreign funeral director from our worldwide network and liaising with them on a seamless repatriation process .
